about

The E-Types were a highly successful Central California band in the mid-Sixties whose success & popularity in the region matched and sometimes exceeded those of many other California bands who were better known throughout the country. Although The E-Types singles sold well in California and hit the Top Forty in many parts of the state, the band never caught on around the country, despite appearances on Dick Clark's daily band-centric "Where the Action Is" national TV show and a loyal following.

When The E-Types reunited to record an album in the late '90s, their lead singer, Bob Wence, approached me about recording some of my songs, and I submitted "In Our Time," a song I wrote specifically for the band; however, they decided instead to record some of my other songs. Rather than let a good song go to waste, I recorded it myself as an ode to the E-Types, a band that should have made it big.

lyrics

IN OUR TIME (Ode to the E-Types)
words & music by Richard Horton © Hortones

Turn that dial, it’s on the radio
(You’re dialing way too slow)
Hear our song (it sounds like yesterday)
It somehow slipped away

In our time, we lived on edge of fame
In our time, so sure you’d know our name
In our time
Whenever we would play

At the beach we won the Battle of the Bands
(With our bottle-bleached sun tans)
Played our song, the dancing girls went wild
(Made our manager to smile---)

At the time -- so sure we'd had it made
At the time -- just waiting for the day
In our time
Whenever we would play

Remember when we graced your TV screen
(And Dick Clark made it seem that
we’d grasped the magic golden ring
Just another easy thing)

At the time – so sure that it would last.
At the time – it faded much too fast
In our time
Whenever we would play
